Fantastic Smoothies to Enjoy with Your Kids

Getting kids and teens to eat their greens can almost feel impossible, especially if you have particularly fussy eaters. Smoothies are a great way to get them eating the good stuff without them realising. Anything green can be slightly off-putting to children, so its best to mix any greens with something sweet and most of all make it fun!

Green Smoothies

A great green smoothie to start on is this peach and spinach smoothie, be sure to follow the recipe as you can overdo it with the spinach and it will become bitter tasting.

You Will Need

  • 150ml almond milk
  • 2 handfuls of spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 2 frozen peaches
  • 2 Tbsp Greek Yoghurt
  • Orange (optional)

Add the almond milk, spinach, banana and peaches and blend for 1 minute until smooth, then add the greek yoghurt and blend for 15 seconds. Add ice and serve immediately. To turn into a healthy snack, cut up an orange and serve by the side. This smoothie will give your kids a healthy energy boost.

If your kids are a bit more daring, why not try this coconut smoothie packed with nutrients and great tasting ingredients, this smoothie is sure to be a hit with any family.

You Will Need

  • 1 green apple
  • 2 handfuls of grapes
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 50g frozen mango
  • 50g frozen pineapple
  • 100ml coconut milk
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Shredded coconut to garnish

Add apple, grapes, banana, mango, pineapple and lemon juice to the blender. Blend until desired texture (usually around 1 minute). Then add the coconut milk and blend for a further 15 seconds. Add ice and the shredded coconut to decorate.

Colourful Smoothies

Making smoothies colourful can really help your kids get excited about drinking all that goodness. Be sure to blend similar colour fruits and veggies together, as this will create a vibrant tasty concoction.

You will need

  • 2 Stalks of celery
  • 2 carrots
  • 4 blood oranges
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 a beetroot
  • 5 strawberries
  • Handful of blueberries

The sweetness of the apples, orange, strawberries and blueberries will mask the taste of the beetroot and celery. So don’t worry about your kids being picky about this juice. This smoothie is super easy, just add all your ingredients and blend away. Add ice if preferred, but try not to get this on your clothes as it will be a pain to get out!

This smoothie is like a glassful of sunshine, its vibrant orange colour is a sure crowd pleaser and it tastes amazing.

You Will Need

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 oranges
  • 3 carrots
  • 50g frozen mango chunks
  • A handful of red grapes
  • 100ml almond milk

For this recipe, it's best to make sure you peel the oranges and get as much pith off as possible, as the pith can be bitter and give a lumpy texture. Blend all the fruit and veg together until smooth, then add almond milk and blend for a further 15 seconds.

Smoothie Ice Lollies

These are great for the summer time and have nowhere near the same amount of sugar as your standard ice lollies and they taste a lot better too.

Blend all ingredients together and pour into ice lolly moulds, then freeze for a minimum of 5 hours. These lollies are super sweet and are great for a quick refreshing snack.
