Juice Detoxing for Health in the New Year

It’s 2018, and as a result, it’s time for “New Year, New Me” health kick to begin. For the average person (myself included) this typically means two weeks of effort, where we endeavour to live a healthy lifestyle before the eventual fall back into old routines. However, it is possible to make leading a healthy lifestyle easier, and for some, the answer can be found with juicing.

Why Bother with a Detox?

I’m sure by this point we’ve all heard of a juice detox, but that doesn’t mean that everyone knows what one is. In short, it’s a juice only diet that makes it easier for your body to cleanse itself of unwanted toxins and chemicals. Typically, it will be done for a few days to a week, although when you’re new to the concept a shorter period is advisable. Once complete your body won’t be clogged up and you should feel better physically and mentally. Basically, if you’ve got the willpower, it’s a great way to kickstart a fresh year.

How a Cold Press Juicer Helps

Juice detoxing is only possible with a juicer, and therefore it’s easy to leap on the first device you see. However, to get the best cleanse for your body choosing the right style of juicer is important. At the bare bones, there are two common groups of juicers, centrifugal and masticating (cold press). Both of these styles work similarly, but they have a few key differences that make them suitable for different types of people. We won’t do a full overview now, but if you want more information you can check out our full analysis of these two styles here.

What you do need to know is that when it comes to detoxing there is no doubt that the masticating style will provide better results. Without going into too much detail, this is due to the masticating style preserving a higher level of nutrients from ingredients, which will shape the path towards a more effective cleanse that can keep your body sustained correctly.

Activity and Exercise

When on a juice cleanse it’s important to keep track of your body. Since you’re going without the usual energy-giving carbohydrates, your body won’t be able to stand as much pressure. Therefore, keep exercise to a minimum, and if you want to do it, stick to gentle routines or activities such as yoga. Many people make the error of thinking that detoxing has to go with exercise, but the opposite is true and it’s often best to leave exercise for a few days after you finish the cleanse.

How to Progress After Detoxing

Once you’ve completed a cleanse, it's important to gradually work your way back to a normal diet. Start with moving to some fruits and vegetables, then over the next few days, you can add carbs and protein. Judge your bodies reaction to the previous day's food before adding new ingredients.

Once you’re back in a normal routine it’s important to avoid old unhealthy eating habits. Some people do a cleanse to stay healthy, but there are also popular for people looking to lose weight. If the latter is you, then ensure that you try to keep eating plenty of vegetables. Furthermore, try to use organic ingredients where possible to avoid re-clogging your body with toxins.

Outside of diet, exercise is also an important consideration. If you’re already doing a decent amount each week that’s great, but if not try and fit just a few 10-minute routines into your life 2 or 3 times a week. Then, if you want to increase the time spent exercising to see faster and better results.
