This past year we've seen some fantastic new juicers, and innovative designs have set higher standards for all manufacturers to equal. As a result, some formerly fantastic models now look outdated compared to their modern counterparts.

Of course, since there are so many styles and types of juicers, we can’t pick just one as the best for all scenarios. So, with that in mind, let's discuss the best juicers currently on the market.

We’ve selected individual winners for the following categories:

Best Vertical Juicer

Best Wide Feed Juicer

Best Horizontal Juicer

Best Twin Gear Juicer

Best All-Rounder

Best Overall Juicer

Best Juicers of 2021 Video

Best Vertical Juicer

There are many vertical juicers on the market at the moment, all with their own advantages and unique features. However, our winner this year was clear, and unsurprisingly it is
Hurom that takes the crown, with their latest model the
	Hurom H100.

After putting the H100 through its paces it has quickly become our go to juicer as it excels in almost every way possible. We love the sleek sophisticated design that makes it feel like a drinks production device and the fact it doesn’t look out of place in a modern kitchen is also another bonus.

Hurom is consistently excelling with its juicing technology and the new screenless design really does give the H100 a decisive edge. The new "dual strainer" separates the juice and pulp just like the screen typically found in other vertical models. However, it does so while being much easier to clean and assemble.

Best Wide Feed Juicer

Designed as an upgrade to the already popular C9500, the
Kuvings EVO820 offers a refined design with some improvements that make it generally more durable. We love the new style of feed chute that features a flip-top lid with a wider diameter of 82 mm. This makes juicing easier and faster than ever, while also improving safety during use, especially for children.

Beyond its unique feed chute design, the EVO820 has a premium and modern appearance with a textured leather look body, which is supported by high-quality juicing components. The latest generation of components have some significant improvements, increasing durability and security during juicing.

Best Horizontal Juicer

	The
Omega Sana 707 is our favourite for this year, holding out a slim advantage over its competitors. The 707 design outweighs its competitors with a minimal and stylish finish that is available in a fantastic variety of colours.

It also comes with a full set of accessories including a coarse screen, homogenising blank and nozzles as well as a bonus glass juice collection jug and a stainless steel pulp collection bowl.

The juice and pulp collection bowls do not come with any other juicer, which is why we feel that the package offered by the 707 is simply too good to turn down. Plus, the compact design means that it will take up less space on your kitchen worktop.

Best Twin Gear Juicer

	The
Angel 8500s, is a clear winner in this category as it is made entirely from surgical stainless steel, which keeps bacteria to a minimum and If you’re serious about juicing, this machine is worth the price tag.

Sporting a 3 horsepower motor, this juicer earns its title as one of the most powerful juicers on the market. With slow, masticating twin gears, the 8500s can exert huge amounts of pressure onto ingredients, leaving pulp bone dry.

The model is ideal for thick produce and low oxidation levels, meaning less foamy juices and an enzyme packed juice that can survive at least 24 hours in the fridge.

Best All-Rounder

If you’re looking for a juicer that ticks all of the boxes you should consider the
Hurom H-AA. Available at a fantastic price, Hurom's slow squeeze technology produces respectable yields for all ingredient types.

The H-AA also comes with the sorbet and smoothie strainer which is ideal for a variety of food types. The H-AA has a Slow 43 RPM augur with a separate 17 RPM spinning brush rotation, which helps to extract as much juice as possible whilst preserving delicate enzymes and nutrients.

Best Overall Juicer

Now, while all of the juicers we’ve listed so far are fantastic, there is one that we feel is even better suited to be our overall top recommendation for 2021. Probably the easiest to use juicer ever made, the
Hurom H200 is the only self-feeding juicer currently available in the UK.

Load the self-feeding hopper up with prepared ingredients, switch it on and let the H200 get to work. No more waiting for each ingredient to juice before you can add another ingredient, as there is an added mixing bar that rotates to separate ingredients.

You won’t have to worry about blockages either as the ingredients will be pushed down into the juicing chamber at an ideal pace. As a result, the owner of a H200 can leave it to work for a few minutes and come back to a fresh glass of juice ready and waiting for them.

Unfortunately, ageing is going to happen regardless of what we eat, but eating certain foods will help you age gracefully and prevent any common illness you may encounter. However, we do believe that using an adequate amount of sunscreen and drinking plenty of water is the foundation for making your skin look youthful. Below we have our top food picks that we believe to be a good starting point if you want a youthful diet.

Avocados

Super tasty and can be used in salads, on toast or as a dip, avocados are a great food to have in your fridge. Avocados typically get mistaken for vegetables but are in fact a fruit that contains a compound called polyhydroxylated fatty alcohols. These can fight inflammation, protect your skin from the sun and help repair damaged DNA.

Green Tea

Green tea can be drank hot or cold which makes it the perfect drink all year round! Unlike other teas, green tea is high in antioxidants, which is important to fight off free radicals. Free radicals can cause severe illnesses such as cancer and stimulate the ageing process. As the body ages, it loses the ability to fight the free radicals, which results in more free radicals and damage to vital cells. Consuming antioxidants can change the structure of the molecules that cause free radicals to be harmful. The less free radicals we have in our body, the slower the ageing process becomes.

Green tea is rich in one particular antioxidant called polyphenols, which help to protect collagen, the main protein in our skin.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

You may be wondering why olive oil is on this list, but it's actually one of the healthiest fats you can eat. You don’t want to be consuming large amounts of this oil because that wouldn’t be good for anyone. But a dash of olive oil on salads or meats is a great way to consume olive oil. This oil has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce heart disease and prevent metabolic syndrome.

Fatty Fish

Rich in omega 3, fatty fish can protect your heart from disease and fight inflammation. Salmon, one of the most popular types of fatty fish, contains a carotenoid antioxidant called Astaxanthin, which is responsible for the pink colour of salmon. Commonly Astaxanthin can be taken to aid Alzheimer's disease, but it can be taken to help eyesight and high cholesterol.

Any Vegetables

Most vegetables are full of nutrients and low in calories which is why we should be eating more veggies. Majority of people tend to shy away from vegetables as they can taste particularly bland, but adding flavours and combining them with other foods, will all help your taste buds accept them. Carotenoids like beta-carotene are present in a lot of vegetables, which help prevent free radicals, veggies such as carrots, pumpkin and sweet potatoes all have vitamin C and carotene.

Cocoa

This food is a bonus if you love rich dark chocolate or cacao nibs, as these contain an antioxidant called flavanols. According to research cacao (which is the raw form of chocolate) has more powerful antioxidants than acai berries and blueberries, which is great news if you prefer a chocolatey flavour. The flavanols in dark chocolate help protect our skin from sun damage, which all helps the ageing process slow down.

The main point to remember is everyone has different budgets for food and you should stick to whatever works well for you and your pocket.

Plan Your Meals

This part is vital if you don’t want wasted food. Take some time to look up some new recipes to keep things interesting, either plan a week or 2 weeks in advance. Then from this, make a list of groceries, but be sure to check what you already have and don’t overbuy! There are plenty of apps where you can save your favourite recipes and create shopping lists, which is ideal if you don’t have much time to plan.

Use Your Leftovers

Leftovers are great for lunches or in other recipes and certain dishes actually taste better the day after. Dishes like spaghetti bolognese and curry tend to keep for a couple of days but the majority of leftovers usually make very good stews, stir-fries, salads and burritos.

Say No to Ready Meals

Home cooking is a lot of effort especially if you’ve just come home from work, but try prepping a couple of meals on your day off and bulk cook meals you know you can easily freeze. By doing this you’ll cut down on prep time when you come home from work, or if you don’t feel like cooking at all, grab one of your meals out the freezer. This way you will make healthier choices and doesn’t everyone love home cooking compared to a salty ready meal.

Food Storage

This brings us to food storage, good quality storage containers can prolong foods shelf life by 4 times! Make sure to purchase a mixture of BPA free airtight and vacuumed containers, as these can be put in the fridge or the freezer and prevent freezer burn and mould. Be savvy with your coupons and keep them in your purse or wallet so you never forget them. This is also a great reminder that it's ok to treat yourself to something delicious once in a while, as unhealthy foods can sometimes be on the pricer side, use your coupon to treat yourself. But remember only in moderation.

Don’t Impulse Buy

There are so many tempting foods that can make food shopping very expensive, so be diligent and don’t get sidetracked. A good rule of thumb to follow is to always look at the top or bottom shelves, as these tend to be cheaper as the more expensive items are placed at eye level. You never want to go shopping when your hungry as this often leads to impulse buying!

Buy Whole Foods

Certain foods like cereals are a lot cheaper if they haven’t had much processing, for example, a bag of rolled oats is around half the cost of pre-made porridge packets. Be smart and see if you can add any ingredients to oats or bran flakes to make it more interesting.

Buy the Supermarkets Brand

Most supermarkets offer alternatives to big brands, which often means a reduction in price. The supermarket brands are sometimes as good as the big brands and shouldn’t be dubbed as being a poorer product.

Water ionizers have proven to be an area of much debate and for years many people have done research to uncover what potential health benefits they may or may not offer. Of course, as a result not every supposed effect of ionized water has been discovered to be true, but some have, and you might be impressed to find out what they can do.

Therefore, we’ve put together the 7 best benefits that can be achieved by drinking alkaline ionized water.

The Battle Against Cancer

One of the greatest perks of a water ionizer is definitely the impact it can have on preventing cancer. Many bodily cancers are caused by oxygen radicals, which are produced as a by-product of various important metabolic functions. These radicals are unstable molecules and they attack the cells in the body causing disruptions that can become cancerous.

However, while dangerous, these free oxygen radicals can be combatted with antioxidants, which are produced by an ionizer in the form of Hydroxide ions (OH-). These ions work in a similar way to other good antioxidants such as Vitamins A and C, and they are able to combine with oxygen radicals to form a full oxygen molecule, which can instead by used practically by the body.

Of course this is not a direct cure and it only reduces the risk, but that in itself should be a good enough reason to consider investing as cancer is a problem nobody wants to face.

Cardiovascular Boost

Free radicals don’t just lead to cancer, and over time lots of research has shown a link between them and poorer cardiovascular health. In particular they have been linked with atherosclerosis, which occurs when the inner vessel wall is damaged (often by free radicals) and gets clogged with cholesterol.

This process is often the starting point for a stroke or heart attack as a large enough atheroma can cause the blood vessel to be constricted, limiting the flow of blood. Parts of the atheroma can also break off and get trapped in a vessel, which in turn often leads to a cardiovascular attack.

Alkaline ionized water is able to limit these risks by firstly neutralising free radicals, preventing them from attacking vessel cells to kickstart the formation of an atheroma. However, interestingly it has also shown some promising results in reducing the potential growth of an atheroma, making it less dangerous even when formed.

Efficient Hydration

Water ionizers also allow for the production of water that is better at hydrating. This may sound weird at first, as of course normal tap water is a great form of hydration. However, the ionization process causes the clusters of molecules in water to break apart into smaller groups. This process leaves a larger number of clusters that contain only around 5 H20 molecules as opposed to normal clusters that typically contain 10 - 15.

These small clusters can then be absorbed into cells with greater ease as they can permeate through membranes in less time thanks to minimal resistance. This in turn leads to faster hydration and allows water molecules to be used practically for flushing our waste from the body.

Improved Digestion

Alkaline ionized water has also been shown to have an interesting impact on digestion and it is very beneficial to the colon in particular. The colon is an important part of the digestive system and it is essential that it is kept alkaline where possible. Not only does this allow it to function more effectively, but it also helps to prevent colon cancers from forming.

It is also important to know that drinking alkaline water does not have a hugely negative impact on the stomach during digestion. A majority of digestion is actually carried out by enzymes, not the acid itself, so if the acid were to be slightly weakened your body would still be able to digest foods easily. However, when eating meats, lactose or gluten it is often best to avoid drinking any particularly alkaline water until 20 minutes after eating.

Transcendent Skin

Using a water ionizer in your life clearly offers many important health benefits. However, not every benefit has to be for important medical conditions as ionized water also helps to keep skin clear, fresh and wrinkle free.

Once again it does this by combating free radicals with the Hydroxide ions produced by the ionization process. These radicals are the main cause of wrinkles as they damage the skin and cause it to deteriorate over time, so fighting them and neutralising is very important and is often achieved through endless face exfoliators and moisturisers.

Rubbing ionized water on the face has also been linked with lower levels of acne and a reduction of sore areas.

Fresh Taste

Some people love the taste of normal tap water or claim it has no taste at all. However, it definitely isn’t for everyone, and personal preferences are often divided between soft, hard or bottled water. As an alternative though alkaline ionized water does offer a slightly different taste that may appeal to those who prefer bottled water. Furthermore, over time it can offer a saving for individuals who are dedicated bottled water drinkers.

On top of a better taste, it is also believed by many that alkaline ionized water is smoother to drink and feels more hydrating in the mouth. However, there isn’t really any proof of this and it may well be a placebo effect or simply a link to the smaller water molecule clusters found in ionized water.

Excellent Water Filtration

Finally, an ionizer also offers excellent water filtration almost unintentionally. Since it charges molecules it is able to rather effectively separate out common tap water contaminants from water such as Chlorine, Chloramine, Heavy Metals (Lead, Mercury), VOC’s and Pesticides. This leaves behind a cleaner water, yet for the most part leaves useful minerals such as magnesium potassium and even some calcium untouched.

You might see BPA a lot when shopping for anything plastic, this also includes plastic water bottles. Plastic is a big concern when it comes to ecological issues, as it can cause havoc in the environment, especially in the ocean. Disposing of plastic has never been as bad as it is now and this is due to it being used in a lot of products.

Many people are not aware of the health issues BPA plastics hold, and recent media attention has made producers consider changing over to BPA free plastics.

What is BPA

BPA also known as Bisphenol is added to plastics to make it durable, this synthetic compound is used in a wide variety of commercial products. BPA is located within the structure of polycarbonate plastics and in most instances presents no threat. However, when containers or bottles that use polycarbonates are heated, the structure breaks down slightly, allowing some BPA molecules to be released. This is where the danger lies as most plastics are heated to be moulded.

The Health Risks

If you eat or drink out of a container that is made from BPA, then you run the risk of consuming BPA molecules. These molecules can leach out into food and drink without you realising. At small levels, BPA consumption will not harm or impact anyone. But let's say you’ve been using BPA plastic without knowing frequently, then the risks could be quite worrying.

Pregnant women should be especially careful of their BPA consumption as prenatal exposure to this substance has shown a trend of higher mental health risks in children and cases of hormonal imbalance.

Furthermore, it is believed that BPA can affect the cognitive skills of those exposed to it, as research on animals has shown that a small dose can impact on memory and the ability to carry out basic tasks.

Fairly worrying outcomes, but it gets worse. High blood pressure and diabetes are also attributes of BPA. Research has shown a majority of people who had higher levels of BPA in their urine, had a higher risk of hypertension and cardiovascular illness. Those who carried out BPA free lifestyles had a typically healthier blood pressure level.

Unfortunately, cancer is a very big risk when it comes to Bisphenol. Most commonly it has been associated with higher risks of breast cancer, but more recent research has also shown a developing trend with prostate cancer too. Stay away from BPA if you have an increased risk with any of these conditions.

Check Before You Buy

Thankfully, there are many more regulations in place on the production of plastics than there used to be, but be sure to still check for a BPA free label usually on the bottom of a product. Check your children’s toys, especially young children who tend to put objects in their mouths, check your plastic containers you use to store food in and check any water bottles you have at home. A simple check could save you the risk of any of the above health issues.

Juicing is a new and fun way to get your kids eating fruits and vegetables without really realising. It can be tough to get children eating the right foods especially when they go through that picky eating stage, but try and stay consistent. Don’t give up! Blending can sometimes be tricky for children who struggle with textures, that's why we suggest juicing.

Research has proven children who drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice from an early age are much more likely to eat more fruit and vegetables whilst growing up, and into their adult life. This research suggests children can easily learn to like particular foods, and you should let your children taste a food up to 15 times before giving up.

Why Juice

Giving your children fruit juice will give them all the vitamins and minerals they need for a healthy growth and development. Young children tend to catch nasty bugs easily but if you give them the right vitamins and minerals via juice, you will be able to strengthen their immune system very quickly.

Vegetables that have strong flavours can also be a challenge, even in juice. Pairing strongly flavoured vegetables with sweet fruits is essential when getting young children to drink juice. Lemon juice is a great way to disguise lots of produce, but you need to get your proportions right for this to work. Try masking spinach and kale flavours with lemon and pineapple, and you will be pleasantly surprised by the taste. Introducing new foods will broaden your child’s palette and give them a varied diet.

Make Juicing Fun

Make juicing fun and get your children involved in the process. This can be done by letting them chop up and peel ingredients or you can get them to feed the ingredients into the hopper. Allowing them to help is a great way of getting them involved. As they have helped to make their juice they may actually enjoy drinking it. Children also love watching their food being turned into liquid and the pulp being pushed out.

Start your kids of simple by using a couple of fruits and vegetables you know they like, then slowly incorporate different fruits and vegetables. Once they feel comfortable with that juice, start creating new juices. Always keep one of there favourite fruits or vegetables in the mixture as this will help psychologically.

It is advised to start giving children fruit and vegetable juice at around 1-2 years, the juice should also be diluted so they are not digesting to much sugar. Diluting the juice will also make it weaker and it won’t upset their stomach. Please do remember never to substitute a child's meal for a juice.

Simple Juice Recipes

Recipe 1

2 Apples

2 Carrots

Add 10-20ml of cold water

Recipe 2

1 orange

2 carrots

1/4 mango

Add 10-20ml of cold water

More Interesting Juice Recipes

2 Carrots

2 Blood Oranges

1/4 Pineapple

Make sure to peel the oranges and pineapple before you juice.

These types of foods have become very popular, but many people believe if they eat a couple of superfoods now and then they will become healthy. This is not true and superfoods shouldn’t be classed as a quick fix. Superfoods are mostly plant-based but do contain certain fish and dairy products. They are often high in nutrients, antioxidants and or omega-3 fatty acids. To get the most out of your superfoods you need to incorporate them into a healthy diet.

Chia

Despite there small size, these seeds are filled with nutrients and should be considered as a delicious superfood, that you can incorporate into salads. They contain a hefty amount of omega 3, even more than salmon. So if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to get a super boost of omega 3, chia seeds are the answer.

Avocado

With a great texture, you can add this superfood to salads, smoothies, toast, dips or just eat it on its own. Avocados contain 20 different vitamins and minerals that are all going to benefit your body. For example, they contain more potassium than bananas and are loaded with fibre.

Baobab

From Africa, Australia and the Middle East, the fruit and the tree have been used as food, medicine and a basis for household furniture.

This tropical fruit is perfect for smoothies or juices as it doesn’t have much taste but is filled with vitamin C, calcium and potassium. Due to the high fibre content, this fruit can act as a laxative so don’t eat too much! The Baobab fruit can come in a form of powder, which is much easier to get hold off in health stores, as this type of fruit is not widely available throughout the UK.

Peas

If you love the taste of sweet peas always go smaller as these have the sweetest taste. There is so much you can do with peas, for example, eat the pods by themselves as a nutritious snack or as an addition to green salads and gently heated stir-fries. Green peas are super low in calories, so you won’t have to watch how many you eat. Peas contain fibre, which helps clean your digestive system, they also include B vitamins which help cell turn over.

Acai

This berry is full of calcium, iron and vitamin A which is great for your immune system. Acai can come in many forms such as powder, juice and the raw berry, which means you can easily incorporate it into your diet. Popular uses of Acai are smoothies, juices, salad dressing and Acai bowls.

Pecans

These nuts are very high in fat but do not let that put you off. They contain good fats, not trans or saturated, which makes them a good choice if you want something to fill you up. Pecans are a great source of protein and should be considered if you are on a plant-based diet. They also offer a high source of vitamin E which is perfect for your liver and the ageing process.

These tiny black seeds have become a popular superfood in the healthy food world, originally from South America, chia seeds come from the Salvia hispanica plant, which is a member of the mint family. This blog post will run through some quick facts and a couple of recipes for you to enjoy.

The main reason why chia seeds are popular is because they are rich in fibre, which helps us feel fuller for longer. This is why many people eat them the morning as they also aid with digestion and keep our blood sugar levels stable.

Not only are chia seeds rich in fibre but they are also rich in calcium, which is known to help aid bone health. It actually works out better if you eat a bowlful of chia seeds rather than a glass full of milk, as you will receive a much higher volume of calcium.

You can make a fair few recipes with chia seeds, as they have a fairly neutral taste that can be seasoned to whatever you like. Below are a couple of ideas we love re-creating.

Toasting the seeds is a great way to add texture to your to your salads, cereals, cakes and smoothies. Toast the seeds at a low heat on the hob, be sure to keep tossing them so they don’t burn.

Tropical Chia Seed Pudding

Chia seed pots are great for experimenting as you can’t really go wrong with them. In this recipe the seeds will absorb the milk, turning them into a soft consistency.

Recipe

100 ml almond milk

100 ml coconut milk

4 tbsp of chia seeds

3 tbsp honey

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 mangos

Combine the almond milk, coconut milk, vanilla extract and chia seeds together and chill for 2 hours.

Peel and de seed the mangos and blend until smooth.

Once the chia seeds have been chilled, add a layer of the chia mixture to the bottom of your glass and then add a layer of the mango puree on top. Alternate, until glass is full and add honey to sweeten on top.

Serve immediately and enjoy.

Chia Seed Smoothie

The best part about smoothies is that you are able to chuck virtually anything in and it will taste fantastic (aslong as you pair it with fruits and vegetables you like). Chia seeds offer a great texture to smoothies and even-though you won’t be able to taste them, they will still give you plenty of benefits.

Recipe

200 ml vanilla almond milk

120g blueberries

90g raspberries

2 frozen bananas

1 avocado

2 tbsp chia seeds

50ml water

Add all ingredients together and blend until smooth, this smoothie will be thick, so if you prefer a runnier consistency don’t freeze the bananas.

Both of these recipes will offer a great snack during the day, as they are super healthy and keeps you fuller for longer.
