Juice Recipes to Help with Digestion

Juicing for digestion

Summer will soon be taking its toll with days extending and temperatures soaring while those cooler nights shorten. This is the time when all sorts of gastrointestinal problems can arise such as diarrhoea and vomiting, being the most common. The major cause for these symptoms is indigestion – the difficulty in digesting food by the stomach which is what you call an “upset stomach”. Indigestion can be curbed or you can aid digestion by the intake of juices which will in a way keep you cool and also help in digesting food. All you need is some fresh produce and a good reliable masticating juicer.

There are umpteen juice bars or cafes that serve you with some delectable choices of juices and concoctions from a combination of fresh fruits and vegetables, but why not create your juices at home for a fresher, cheaper alternative.

Vegetable juices, in particular, are best for cleansing your liver and keeping the digestive system very healthy. In order to keep the digestive system healthy, our gastrointestinal tract must work in healthy conditions.

Let us look at a recipe that will keep your gastrointestinal tract or gut clean and healthy for articulate digestion.

  • Ingredients: ½ Fennel bulb, 1 Cucumber, 1 Apple, 2 Celery stalks, 1 lemon, 1 piece of ginger (maybe an inch long), 1 cup fresh mint leaves and 60 grams of Aloe Vera leaves.
  • Method: Chop all the ingredients (removing the peel from the lemon) except Aloe Vera leaves and juice everything up while stirring the Aloe Vera gel from the leaves. Strain everything if you like your juice smooth and enjoy it chilled every day to keep your tummy healthy and cleansed. You will love it!

You may wonder why juices are healthier than what we eat! There are simple reasons to explain this. Remember while we were babies, we were given semi-liquid food, may it be porridge, vegetables or fruits – babies become healthier by eating such food rather than having complex food particles to be broken down by the digestive system. Well, modern world and pollution has made our digestive system fragile and opting for juices is the best answer. Also, juices have the ability to cleanse (detoxify) our body which in turn keeps the digestion in check.

There are many fruit, vegetable or a mix-of-both juices which you could opt for, also you can be adventurous with the options you have and create your own Master Chef recipe. Now you know that juice keeps your digestion healthy, you won’t have a frown on your face when your stomach is kept healthy with these juices. Go on, grab a glass or two and juice it!
