Inside
the IonLife - an exploded view
Polluted
air is drawn in by the fan and purified through the following five stage
filtration system.
A. HEPA Filter
(white):
- Highest
standard of micro filtration available in a replaceable
filter.
- Traps
particles like allergens, pollen, dust, smoke, pet dander
and etc.
|
|
B.
Photo-catalyst
Filter (Grey):
- Latest absorbent filtration now being installed by
airlines to overcome in-flight lethargy.
- Brakes down poisonous fumes, e.g. formaldehyde, benzene,
ammonia into CO2 and H2O
- Eliminates cigarette smoke and other odors.
|
|
C.
UV
Light
- Eliminates
viruses, germs, bacteria and fungal spores.
|
|
D.
Activated carbon filter (black):
- Absorbs
smoke and stale odours.
|
|
E.
Negatively charged oxygen ion generator
- Creates
healthy, energizing air, using new long-life carbon brush
technology
- Improves
the air quality by combining with dust or reacting with
odor molecules.

Latest
Technology Ion Generator
The
IonLife implements carbon fibre technology within the ion generator,
which replaces the traditional use of needles common to other ion emitters.
Although
needles are effective as ion emitters, oxygen blunts them rapidly leaving
you with an ineffective ionizer after only 3 months of evening
use alone. Needle replacement is fiddle-some and of course adds considerably
to the total cost of ownership. Many customers simply continue using
their ionizer despite its redundancy.
The
carbon fibre technology used in the IonLife has a life-span of over
2 years under continuous use.
Why
Do I need a Filter as well as an Ionizer?
When you use an
ionizer only, it causes particulate in the air to become attracted to
each other. As this happens, the particles get larger, until, due to
a combination of weight and atomic attraction, they either settle onto
the nearest surface or wall. It's not immediately noticeable, but within
a year you are going to have a layer of black 'soot' on walls and surfaces
- assuming you don't regularly wipe them.
The problem is
exacerbated by the fact that a large amount of airborne particulate
is petrochemical in origin. This means that as it settles on wood, or
painted surfaces, it seeps into them. By the time you realise, it's
too late.
The second very
important point is the issue of clean air in general. An Ionizer does
not, contrary to all the sales blurbs, clean air, it merely causes particulate
to settle, leaving cleaner air in its place. Unfortunately every single
negative ion only has the ability to unite with a single opposite charge
positive ion. There is NO SHORTAGE of positive ion 'spacejunk' in our
house and car air. This means that beneficial small negative ions are
highly unlikely to ever reach you for ingestion. However if the unit
incorporates a fan and an efficient air filter such as a HEPA, the story
is very different.
In this case, the
air is drawn into the unit and particles trapped BEFORE ionization.
The Ionized purified air is released from the filter/ionizer and is
readily available for ingestion because the negative ions are in a clean
air stream.
There
has never been a better unit with more comprehensive lifesaving features
than the IonLife FreshAir

Airborne
Bacteria
Bacteria grow in
a wide variety of habitats and conditions. Much of our experience with
bacteria involves disease, though some bacteria live on or in the human
body and prevent disease. Bacterial parasites that cause disease are
called pathogens. Some dramatic bacterial killers are Cholera, Tuberculosis,
and Legionnaires Disease. perhaps less dramatic but still as relevant
today, Influenza Type A.
Thousands of types
of bacteria are been catalogued in the air in major city environments.
These airborne bacteria include:
- Escherichia
coli
- botulism-causing
bacteria (bacterium Clostridium botulinum)
- whooping cough
bacteria (Bordetella pertussis)
- pneumonia bacteria
(Mycoplasma pneumoniae)
- bronchitis
bacteria (Chlamydia pneumoniae)
- meningitis
bacteria (Haemophilus influenzae)
- tuberculosis
bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis)
- diphtheria
bacteria (Corynebacteria diphtheria)
- scarlet fever
bacteria (Streptococcus pyogenes)
- otitis media
bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae)
- anthrax bacteria
(Bacillus anthracis)

Airborne
Germs and Moulds
Many germs and viruses are airborne - including:
- chickenpox virus
(Varicella zoster)
- smallpox virus
(Poxvirus variola)
- pneumonia
- mumps virus
- measles
- influenza
- common cold
"Children
may be more vulnerable than adults because they inhale more air for
their body weight. As well, their growing organs may be more susceptible
to damage. Several studies have demonstrated a higher prevalence of
chronic cough among children living close to main roads." SMH
UV LIGHT is a popular method of destroying airborne bacteria
and viruses.

Moulds
and Spores
When inhaled even
in small amounts, moulds and spores may produce:
- allergens
- irritants
- sometimes toxins
...that may cause
reactions in humans.
Resulting health
problems may include:
- respiratory
nasal & sinus congestion
- throat irritations
- watery and
red eyes
...and may add
to other existing health conditions.

Flu
viruses |
Influenza
Remember,
- people with
colds rarely get fevers
- flu is often
accompanied by headaches
- flu viruses
cause extreme exhaustion
10 to 20 percent
of Australians come down with the Influenza during each flu season,
which typically lasts from November to March. The flu and its complications
can be life-threatening for elderly people, newborn babies, and people
with certain chronic illnesses.
The viruses can
pass through the air and enter your body through your nose or mouth.
When a person with the flu sneezes, they can send germs as far as 20
feet away. Since influenza viruses can remain airborne for up to two
hours, they are easily inhaled by another person. That’s why influenza
infection spreads quickly.
You can spread
influenza to others before your symptoms start and for another 3 to
4 days after your symptoms appear. The symptoms start very quickly and
may include:
- Headache
- Chills
- Dry cough
- Body aches
- Fever
- Stuffy nose
- Sore throat

In Your
Car
New research shows
that spending too much time inside the car can put your health at risk
because of the in-car pollutants which can play havoc with your heart
and respiratory system. The research published in American Journal of
Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine points to the fact that prolonged
exposure to dirty air inside vehicles could trigger potentially dangerous
changes in heart function.
In air conditioned
cars you are trapping the worst quality of air inside the car and circulating
the same polluted air again and again.
There is lot of
evidence that environmental pollutants have an adverse effect on our
well being. Long time exposure to these pollutants whether inside the
car or outside reduces oxidant stress in the body which damages the
lining of blood vessels ultimately contributing to heart diseases''.
In the study, the
researchers monitored the heart rates of troopers of North Carolina
State Highway Patrol Cars. Researchers say that troopers were in excellent
health and appeared to be at low risk for heart or other health problems.
But they found prolonged exposure to air pollution inside the troopers'
vehicles prompted changes in the heart rate that could be hazardous
on less healthy individuals.

In Your Home
According
to the US EPA, the air inside your home may be up to 10 times more polluted
than the air outside.
There are
many sources of indoor air pollution in any home. These include:
- central heating
and cooling systems
- tobacco products
- building materials
- furnishings
- products for
household cleaning and maintenance
- humidification
devices
Other sources,
related to activities carried out in the home, release pollutants intermittently.
These include smoking, solvents in cleaning and hobby activities, the
use of paint strippers in redecorating activities, and the use of cleaning
products and pesticides in house-keeping. High pollutant concentrations
can remain in the air for long periods after some of these activities.
If too little outdoor
air enters a home, pollutants can accumulate to levels that can pose
health and comfort problems.
